J.D. Storie
Historic Sketches

J.D. Storie and the Storie family parallel the growth of Oshawa as an industrial centre as well as the development of Canada.  J.D. Storie was the founder of one of the longer lasting industries in Oshawa, Fittings Ltd.  He did however get his start in another of Oshawa’s great industries, Ontario Malleable Iron Co. in 1875.  As he worked there he moved up the ladder and became a superintendent of the chain department and later, general superintendent.  He then, in 1902, founded the Oshawa Steam and Gas Fitting Co. which would in 1910 become Fittings Ltd.
J.D. Storie not only helped this city industrially, but was also an active member in the community.  He was the president of the Oshawa Hospital Board, helped the Children’s Aid Society, and was deeply involved with the
  church.
