Walter Coulthard, 1899
A987.19.1  file 837

Two other agricultural plants that were located in Oshawa were the Coulthard-Scott Co. Ltd. and the Jas. Provan Works.  Coulthard- Scott was established ca. 1882 and was located at King and Nassau Sts. They employed about 30-60 people and manufactured grain drills, seeders, spring tooth cultivators and disk and seeding barrows.  These farm implements were widely accepted in the Canadian West.  Coulthard- Scott lasted for 12 years before they closed down.
James Provan established the Jas. Provan Works in 1885.  His trade had been successful from the start as they produced hay carrier forks and slings.  His business lasted until the early twentieth century and his goods were considered to be second to none in Canada.
